Location

The green island of Corfu, with its unparalleled natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and modern tourist infrastructure, is the most famous of the Ionian Islands. It is located between the coasts of Italy and mainland Greece and is the northernmost of the Ionian Islands, and at the same time, the westernmost part of the Greek territory.
According to tradition, the island got its name, Corfu, from a nymph of that name, daughter of Asopus, the god of rivers, whom Zeus, the mighty king of the Olympian Gods, fell in love with and brought to the island. to hide their mating from the wrath of his jealous wife, the goddess Hera. The first written reference to the island is found in Homer's "Odyssey", as the island of the Phaeacians, where the legendary hero Odysseus found refuge in the arms of the local princess Nausicaa, after his shipwreck.
Discovering Corfu
The island has a green mountainous landscape, overgrown with olive groves, pines and cypress trees, while its impressive coastline is dotted with many traditional picturesque seaside villages, beaches and coves bathed by crystal clear waters.
The capital of the island is the picturesque and beautiful historic town of Corfu, one of the most attractive and best preserved medieval towns in Europe. Much of its charm is due to the many scattered architectural elements it contains, traces of the different cultures that have settled in it over the years (Venetians, French and British).
